Women's Basketball Picked Fifth in Atlantic Sun North Division
Oct. 23, 2002 MACON, Ga. - Samford has been picked fifth in the North Division in the 2002-03 Atlantic Sun Preseason Women's Basketball Coaches and Media Polls announced by the league office Wednesday. The Bulldogs enter a new era under first-year head coach Mike Morris. Georgia State is the unanimous choice in the Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball Preseason Polls as both coaches and the media selected last year's champion to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. Last season's runner-up, Florida Atlantic, is the favorite in the South Division. The Bulldogs are picked behind the Lady Panthers, Belmont, Campbell and Jacksonville State. A-Sun newcomer Gardner-Webb was chosen to finish behind Samford. With this year's addition of Gardner-Webb, the A-Sun has moved to divisional play in women's basketball. The top four teams from each division will advance to the conference tournament and compete for the A-Sun's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The 2003 Atlantic Sun Tournament will be hosted by UCF, on March 13-15 in Orlando, Fla.
