Women's Basketball Begins Three-Game Homestand Against FAU
Jan. 30, 2003 Samford begins a three-game homestand Thursday night when they host Florida Atlantic (6-10, 4-1 A-Sun) at 7 p.m. in Seibert Hall. The Bulldogs (4-12, 0-5 A-Sun) face the Lady Owls in the first of six consecutive games against A-Sun South Division opponents. Casey Collins scored a game-high 19 points and Samford shot a woeful 24 percent as Gardner-Webb defeated the Bulldogs, 70-49, last Saturday. Noot Pittman recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Katie Gravel scored 11 points and Shameka Smith added 10 points for Gardner-Webb. Gardner-Webb shot 52percent from the field and forced Samford into 19 turnovers. The Bulldogs finished their North Carolina conference trip 0-2 and wrapped up the first round of A-Sun North Division play.. UCF's Adrienne Billings scored 16 points and FAU only shot 28 percent from the field as the Golden Knights knocked off the Lady Owls, 77-62, in Orlando last Saturday. Tamica Pierce scored a game-high 22 points to lead FAU while Julie Goad added 10 points. FAU finished the week 1-1 after squeaking by Mercer, 77-76, at home. April recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. FAU currently is a three-way tie for first place with Troy State and UCF in the A-Sun South Division. Samford and Florida Atlantic meet for the 10th time with the Lady Owls holding a 5-4 advantage in the series. FAU swept last season's series, winning, 87-75, in Boca Raton and, 89-72, in Birmingham.
The Bulldogs continue their home-stand when they host A-Sun South Division foe UCF Saturday at 1 p.m. at Seibert Hall.
