Samford and Jax State Women Battle to End Streaks
Jan. 7, 2002 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford Bulldogs (1-9, 0-3 A-Sun) will try to snap an eight-game losing streak against Jacksonville State (1-10, 0-4 A-Sun) Tuesday night at Seibert Hall. The Bulldogs are 5-5 all time against Jacksonville State. Samford took two of the three games last season including a 60-57 win in the Atlantic Sun Tournament. Giovanni Price leads Samford offensively averaging 14.3 points and seven rebounds a game. She is fifth in the Atlantic Sun in scoring. Clarissa Clark is coming off a 19-point effort against Campbell. She is second on the team averaging 10.9 points per outing. Price and Clark have scored 44 percent of the Bulldogs points this season. The Bulldogs are second in the conference in made three pointers and fifth in the conference in free throw percentage. Jacksonville State has lost 10-straight games since opening the season with a 61-56 win over South Alabama. Shanika Freeman leads the team averaging 10.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Freeman and NcKell Copeland are the only two Gamecocks to have started every game this season. JSU fell to Georgia State on Saturday 61-47. JSU placed three players in double figures led by Tiara Eady and Feddricka Embry who each scored 12 points while Laura Baswell added 10 points for the Lady Gamecocks.
