Friend Scores Career High; Bulldogs Fall To Georgia State
Feb. 25, 2002 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Freshman guard LaBrena Friend scored 14 points and sophomore Giovanni Price added 10 points but Georgia State placed four players in doubles figures as the Lady Panthers took a 72-52 Atlantic Sun women's basketball victory Monday night at Seibert Hall. Friend's effort was a career high for her. She went 4-5 from the floor, 4-4 from the free throw line, grabbed four rebounds and dished out five assists. Price went 5-11 from the floor and grabbed five rebounds. Noot Pittman scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds. Lina Noufena led Georgia State (17-9, 13-6 A-Sun) with 18 points on 5-9 shooting from three-point range. She began the game hitting on four of her first five three-point attempts. She scored 12 of the Lady Panthers first 14 points. Evita Rogers posted her fourth-straight double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Holly Coates added 14 points, while Angelina Miller chipped in 10 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Noufena helped GSU jump out to an early 14-6 lead in the first five minutes. The Lady Panthers extended the lead with a 20-10 run and took a 44-23 lead into halftime. In the second half, Georgia State built their largest lead at 54-29 at the 15:08 mark. Samford responded with a 17-6 run to pull to within 14 points at 60-46 with 5:30 to play. That was as close as the Bulldogs would get as the Lady Panthers ended the game on a 12-6 run.
Samford falls to 3-22 on the season and 2-16 in the Atlantic Sun play. The Bulldogs will conclude the season with two home games. The first will be on Thursday against UCF at 7 p.m. at Seibert Hall.
