Women's Basketball Falls To Tennessee Tech, 57-39

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford's Alex Munday scored 18 points, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs fell to Tennessee Tech, 57-39, Saturday afternoon in Seibert Hall.

Tennessee Tech (16-9, 11-3 OVC) jumped out to an early 7-2 lead with 17:35 to go in the first half on a three-pointer by Kendall Cavin. Samford (9-16, 2-12 OVC) cut the lead to one at 7-6 with 15:38 to go on a jumper by Cora Beth Smith. Tennessee Tech pushed its lead to as much as 14, at 22-8 with 7:07 to go on a layup by Courtney McFarlin. The Golden Eaglettes took a 13-point lead, at 29-16, into halftime.

Tennessee Tech increased its lead to 18, at 36-18, with 16:14 to go in the game on a jumper by Emily Christian. Samford could get no closer than 13 points the rest of the way as Tennessee Tech came away with the 57-39 win.

For Samford, Munday was the only player in double figures. Smith scored six points for the Bulldogs. LaBrena Friend led the team in rebounding with five.

For Tennessee Tech, Christian scored 24, and Casey Bradford chipped in 12 points. Tynisha Alexander pulled down 13 rebounds for the Golden Eaglettes.

Samford will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 24, when the Bulldogs play at Jacksonville State. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off.
