Box Score

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Samford overcame a 15-point halftime deficit at Campbell Thursday night but could not complete the upset as the Camels outscored Samford 13-5 over the final five minutes of their Atlantic Sun women's basketball game.

Campbell (12-13, 10-8) opened the game with an 11-0 run and stretched the lead to as many as 21 in the first half of the game. Senior April Cromartie scored 15 points in the opening half, while Stacey Hinkle added 10 in the opening 20 minutes.

But Samford (3-20, 2-14) regrouped and whittled away at the lead, cutting the 15-point halftime lead to single digits on a free-throw from sophomore Giovanni Price. Campbell kept rebuilding a double-digit lead, but a 11-0 Bulldog run tied the score at 60 apiece with 5:39 remaining in the game. Samford's defense had held Campbell without a field goal for almost seven full minutes while making the run. Samford took a two-point lead, 62-60 when Noot Pittman scored one of her 12 points, but the lead was short-lived after LaTisha Patterson converted a lay-up to tie the game at 62 apiece with 4:51 remaining.

Jennifer East and Clarissa Clark led the Bulldogs with 15 points each, while East added a game-high eight steals. She has been in double figures in points each of her last two games. Clark scored in double figures for the first time since Jan. 8. Pittman added 12 points and nine rebounds in the loss. The Bulldog bench outscored Campbell's bench 25-5 but The Camels held a 50-32 rebounding advantage in the game.

Cromartie scored eight of her 31 points in the remaining minutes to seal the Campbell victory. Cromartie posted her 43rd career double-double adding 15 rebounds and converting 13-of-14 free throw attempts. Cromartie, the school's all-time free-throw leader, now has 426 career points off free-throws. Senior Jarita Crump posted her second career double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Hinkle added 12 points and three assists. Sophomore guard Terra Guandolo led all players with six assists.
