Women's Basketball Drops OVC Game At Southeast Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Samford women's basketball team was defeated by the Southeast Missouri Red Hawks, 85-49, Saturday night in the Show Me Center.

Samford (10-9, 3-5 OVC) was led by Taryn Towns with 10 points. Veronica Pike scored nine points and Cora Beth Smith scored eight for the Bulldogs.

Samford led early in the first half, leading by as much as three points. However, with the score tied at 10-10, Southeast Missouri (13-6, 7-1 OVC) went on a 10-1 run to take a 20-11 lead with 12:18 to go in the half. Samford cut the lead to seven at 20-13 on a basket by Smith, but the Bulldogs could get no closer in the half as the Red Hawks took a 40-20 lead into halftime.

Samford cut the lead to 18 at 40-22, but a 7-0 SEMO run pushed the lead to 25 at 47-22, but Samford could get no closer than 22 points the rest of the way as the Red Hawks ran away with the 85-49 win.

Samford will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 3, when the Bulldogs play host to Tennessee Tech. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:00 p.m. at Seibert Hall. The game can be heard worldwide on the internet at www.samfordsports.com.
