Men's Tennis To Resume SoCon Play At Home Against Georgia Southern
March 16, 2009
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University men's tennis team will return to Southern Conference play Tuesday at 2 p.m., as the Bulldogs host the Georgia Southern Eagles in a critical league matchup to be held at the Samford Tennis Center. Samford (4-9, 1-2 SoCon) heads into Tuesday's dual match riding the positive momentum of a two-game winning streak. On Sunday, the Bulldogs picked up a pair of lopsided victories against Murray State 6-1 and Gadsden State 7-0. With the wins, Samford improved its record at home to 3-3 this season. On Sunday, Samford's Brian Dushock, Carson Kadi and Richard Walsh all finished with 2-0 records in singles play. The Bulldogs' Carl Abalos, Oliver Reynolds, Adam Witcher, Joe Hunsicker and Kelwin DeWet all tallied an identical 1-0 mark in their singles matches against either Murray State or Gadsden State. Georgia Southern (5-3, 1-0 SoCon) enters Tuesday's competition with aspirations of bouncing back from a 4-1 loss at 75th-ranked South Alabama on Sunday. The defeat snapped the Eagles' recent two-match winning streak against Jacksonville University 5-2 and Appalachian State 5-2. Georgia Southern's triumph over Appalachian State on March 6 occurred in the Eagles' first SoCon match of the 2009 campaign. Following Tuesday's SoCon duel against Georgia Southern, the Samford men's tennis team will next be in action Friday at 2 p.m., as the Bulldogs welcome the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns to Birmingham, Ala., for a non-conference matchup to be held at the Samford Tennis Center.
