April 12, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford men's tennis team closed out its final homestand of the 2008 season Saturday with a sweeping win over Morehead State. The 7-0 victory gave the Bulldogs their eighth consecutive Ohio Valley Conference win and moves them to 13-7 overall.

The match began with a ceremony to honor all five of the senior Bulldogs - Jordan Delass, Hank Grant, Sam Huffman, Sam Rocke and Renan Silveira.

The Bulldogs swept all three doubles matches to gain the first point of the match. Seniors Grant and Huffman took an 8-1 decision at the No. 1 court while Delass and Richard Walsh did the same at the No. 2 court. Silveira and Kelwin Dewet blanked Medcalf Bryan, 8-0, at the No. 3 court.

Samford then swept all singles matches from the Eagles, as Delass blanked Doug Song at the No. 2 court (6-0, 6-0) while Silveira and Grant went three sets with their opponents at the No. 1 and No. 4 courts. Brian Dushock won, 6-1, 6-1, at the No.3 court while Oliver Reynolds took a 6-2, 6-2, decision at the No. 6 court.
