BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - David Miser and Colin Thompson each won singles matches while Samford took the doubles point but it was not enough to defeat Southeast Louisiana Wednesday at the Samford Tennis Complex.

The match came down to the battle at No. 5 as SLU's Philippe Darveau defeated Samford's Clive Yeo 6-3, 0-6, 6-2. "That is a tough spot for a freshman," said Samford head coach Glen Fanelli. "Clive played well but just made some freshman mistakes. I am proud of how our team rallied around Clive and Chuck (Haddox) in those final two matches.

Samford (2-6) won the doubles point to take an early lead. The Lions roared back to take the opening set in five of the six singles matches. Only Thompson was a first set winner as he took his match 6-1, 6-0 to give Samford a brief 2-0 lead. Misner and Yeo each forced a third set in their matches. Misner won 4-6, 6-0, 6-4. With Samford ahead 3-2, SLU's Milos Vasovic staved off Chuck Haddox in a second-set tiebreaker to tie the match at 3-3.

Yeo took the second set of his match 6-0 to force a third and deciding set. With both teams watching on Darveau jumped out to a 4-1 lead and went on to win 6-2 for the fourth and deciding point for the Lions.

Samford will return to action on Saturday when both its mens' and women's teams travel to Nashville, Tenn., to face Belmont at 10 a.m. and Tennessee State at 3:30 p.m.
