Men's Tennis Falls At No. 36 Miami, 6-1

MIAMI, Fla. ---- The Samford men's tennis team took on nationally-ranked Miami Friday morning but earned its second road loss of the season, falling 6-1. The Bulldogs are now 0-2 to start the season for the first time since 2003. Samford took on two nationally-ranked players and two ranked doubles teams from the No. 36 Miami team.

In singles, Jordan Delass fell to No.7 Daniel Vallverdu, 7-5, 7-6, at the No. 1 court while No. 97 David Rosenfeld defeated Renan Silveira, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 2 court. At the No. 3 position, Samford's Hank Grant grabbed the only win for the Bulldogs, defeating Carl Sundbery, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6). Brian Dushock fell to Vivek Subramanian at the No. 4 court, 6-0, 6-4 and Sam Huffman fell to Keith Crawley at the No. 5 court, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (0-5). Finally, at the No. 6 position, Richard Walsh fell to JC Whitner, 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles action, No. 30 Miami duo Vallverdu/Sundberg defeated Delass/Silveira, 8-6, in the No. 1 court while No. 18 Subramanian/Rosenfeld defeated Huffman/Grant at the No. 2 court, 8-4. At the No. 3 court Crawley/Nieto defeated Dushock/Walsh, 8-5.

Samford continues its road stint with a visit to No. 28 Auburn on Sunday. The Tigers are the first of three Southeastern Conference opponents the Bulldogs will face this season. Match begins at 1 p.m. at Auburn. For a full recap and results, go to www.samfordsports.com.
