Men's Golf Finishes Play In Raines Development Group Intercollegiate

FLORENCE, S.C. ---- The Samford men's golf team fell from seventh to ninth place Tuesday in round three of the Raines Development Group Intercollegiate hosted by Francis Marion University. The Bulldogs shot 312 on the day to bring their total score to 909.

Freshman Martin Bunt jumped 14 spots from 37th place Monday to finish in a tie at 23rd place on Tuesday. He shot 76-75-72 to come up with a final score of 223 to lead the Bulldog field. John Turnipseed fell six spots to a tie at 31st place, shooting 76 in round three to end with a 225. Ian Cutting took the biggest fall for the Bulldogs, dropping from seventh to a 34th place in round three, shooting 72-73-81 = 226. Chris Duffy, who was in 42nd place after two rounds on Monday, finished in a tie at 68th (77-75-87 = 239), while Bobby Baird finished in 73rd, shooting 77-81-83 = 241.

Furman University walked away with the title, shooting 13 over par with 887. Western Carolina follows in second place, with East Carolina and Troy tied at third. Host team Francis Marion came in a fifth, Georgia College and State University at sixth, and Presbyterian College and Jacksonville State at seventh. Following Samford at ninth was Elon University in tenth, Winthrop and Charleston Southern tied at 11th, Appalachian State and South Carolina-Aiken tied at 13th, and Wofford College rounds out the field at 15th.

The Samford men have a quick turn-around this week as they return to the links this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22-23 for the annual F&M Bank Classic hosted by follow Ohio Valley Conference competitor Austin Peay.
