Villarreal Shines On Opening Day Of Francis Marion Tournament

FLORENCE, S.C. - The Samford University men's golf team competed in the rain-shortened Raines Development Group Intercollegiate Tournament on Monday and posted an opening-round score of 303 at the Country Club of South Carolina. The Bulldogs' Andrew Villarreal finished with a fifth-place score of 2-under 70.

Samford concluded the opening round of play in 18th place. The Bulldogs will finish play in the 2008 Raines Development Group Intercollegiate Tournament on Tuesday in Florence, S.C.

In individual play, Samford's Villarreal turned in a team-best score of 70. The Bulldogs' senior from Decatur, Ala., carded a fifth-place finish in the opening round of the tournament.

The Samford University men's golf team will conclude play in the 2008 Raines Development Group Intercollegiate Tournament on Tuesday at 8 a.m., as the Bulldogs finish their second and third rounds of the event at the Country Club of South Carolina.
