DEER ISLAND, Fla. - Mike Clements shot a 73 in the final round of his collegiate career on Wednesday to finish 34th and Samford's team score of 910 placed the Bulldogs 11th at the 2002 Men's Golf Championship at Deer Island Golf Club.

Clements was not the top finisher for the Bulldogs, however, as junior Seth Mobley shot 78 on Wednesday and posted a 224 for the tournament to finish in a tie for 25th. Freshman Bradley Farmer finished one stroke back with rounds of 75-76-74=225, while sophomore Andy McRae finished with a 235 and senior Russell Kelly's final collegiate round was a 79.

Jacksonville State swept the team and individual medals, as the Gamecocks edged Georgia State by one stroke for the team title. JSU's Jose Campra also won in dramatic fashion, posting a final-round 68 for an eight-under-par total of 208 that topped Campbell's Simon Dunn by a single stroke.

Individually, the tournament was only the second of the season in which a Bulldog did not finish in the Top 20 of the individual standings. As a team, however, the tournament was an end to a disappointing Spring season. After winning the final two touranaments in the Fall, Samford's performance in the A-Sun Championship was the fourth consecutive tournament this season in which the Bulldogs finished in the bottom third of the overall team standings.

The final team standings were as follows: JSU (860), Georgia State (861), Campbell (867), UCF (870), Stetson (883), Jacksonville (894), Mercer (896), Florida Atlantic (904), Troy State (905), Belmont (906) and Samford (910).
