Samford Men's Golf Holds On To Eighth Place After Two Rounds Of Play

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ---- The Samford men's golf team holds onto eighth place at the end of the first day of the Wofford Invitational presented by VAULT. The Bulldogs sit only ten strokes out of the lead, while only two strokes from the top five.

The Samford men shot a combined 581 on the day, shooting 288 in round one and 293 in round two. Two Bulldogs have made their way into the top 20.

Reed Davis leads the field for Samford in a five-way tie at eighth place, shooting 141 on the day. David shot 68 in round one and 73 in round two, holding to three under par for day one. In the first two rounds, Davis shot one eagle, six birdies, and 22 pars.

John Turnipseed joins Davis in the top 20 as he currently sits in a seven-way tie at 20th place. Turnipseed shot 71 in round one and 74 in round two, shooting one over par in the first day of play.

Andrew Villarreal sits in the middle of the pack for Samford in a four-way tie at 27th place, shooting 72-74 = 146.

Rounding out the Samford five are Bradley Pate and Jeremy Cox. Pate sits in a tie at 41st shooting 77 in round one, but improving five stokes to 72 in round two. Cox sits in a tie at 71st place, shooting 79-83 =162 on the day.

Elon University leads the overall field for the Wofford Invitational, shooting 571 on the day. Charleston Southern West Carolina round out the top three, while host team Wofford College holds onto the number four spot. Ohio Valley Conference foe and in-state rival Jacksonville State currently sits in a tie at fifth place with Gardner-Webb University and Francis Marion University.

The Wofford Invitational presented by VAULT will conclude Tuesday on the par 72, 6,877-yard course at The Carolina Country Club with the final 18 holes. The first set of players is due to tee off at 8:30 a.m. with the final group heading out at 10:36 a.m.
