GLENCOE, Ala. - Samford's Ryan Mayberry (35-35) and Armstrong Atlantic's Nick Cowper (37-33) each carded a 2-under-par 70 to tie for the lead after the first 18 holes at the Amoco Ultimate/Young Oil Intercollegiate played at the par-72, 6,846-yard Silver Lakes Golf Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. JSU's Nick Mackay (38-33) and Patricio Cozzoli (34-37) are tied with Samford's Louis South (33-38) for third after each player turned in a 1-under-par 71.

Second round play was suspended due to darkness and will begin at 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are in good position as a team, tied for fourth with a first-round total of 301.

"We played very well today on a pretty hard course," said Samford assistant coach Ian Thompson. "For Ryan and Louis to each play under par is commendable."

Mayberry completed 13 hole of his second round and was even par. He sits at a cumulative 2-under par through 31 holes. South is 3-over par on his second round, with four holes left to play. South is a cumulative 2-over.

Andy McRae is 1-under par for his second round with five holes to play after an opening-round 79.

Host Jacksonville State shot a team total of 292 in the first round and placed three players in the Top 10 to take the lead.

Armstrong Atlantic is four shots back in second place at 296, while South Alabama is third at 298 after the first round on Monday.

"We are hanging in there against two of the best men's teams in the state, in Jacksonville State and South Alabama," said Thompson. "Hopefully, we can keep up the solid play and move up in our overall position Tuesday."
