Men's Golf Falls In Final Two Rounds, Finishes In 21st In Furman Intercollegiate
March 30, 2008
GREENVILLE, S.C. ---- The Samford University men's golf team wrapped up play later than planned Sunday evening in the Furman Intercollegiate held at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C. The Bulldogs lost a battle against top competition and inclement weather, falling from seventh place after round one to 21st place after the final round. After the first round on Friday, Samford sat in the front pack of the field of 24 at seventh place after shooting 296 as a team. Play was haulted on Saturday due to stormy weather and several teams were forced to finish their second rounds early Sunday morning. After a harsh second round in bitter temperatures, the Bulldogs had fallen to 13th place, hoping to be able to move back into the top ten after the final round. However, their hopes we shattered as luck did not swing their way, and the Samford men found themselves finishing at 21st place. John Turnipseed finished in front for the Bulldog five, tying at 31st and shooting 225. He, along with Tyler Baird, shot a team low of 73. Baird shot 232 to finished second for the Bulldogs in a tie at 86. Rounding out the Samford five are Martin Bunt (238), Ian Cutting (239) and Houston Hough (243). Samford will take a couple weeks off before hitting the greens again. Next up for the Bulldog men is the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational, April 13-14. 21 Samford University 296-319-315 = 930
