HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Samford's men's golf team stands in 12th place after one day of competition at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate. Junior Andy McRae, the Bulldog's top player in the fall season, led the team with a 78-70=148, good for 32nd. Senior Seth Mobley shot 77-73=150 and is in 42nd. Freshman Louis South II shot 78-78=150, good for 59th. Freshman Ryan Mayberry shot a 79-78=157 (T61st). And sophomore Bradley Farmer shot 82-78=160 (70th). Southern Miss's Shane Rushing shot 66-71=137 to take the individual lead into the clubhouse after day one. Southeastern Louisiana overtook first-round leader McNeese State by shooting a team score of 277 in the afternoon round. USL holds an eight-stroke lead over second-place Wichita State, 291-279=570. The first round started an hour late this morning, as the teams took the links at 8:30, and the golfers endured 40-degree temperatures throughout the day. However, inconveniences did not prevent McNeese State's Dean Rodgers from recording a course record of 64 in the first round. A combined total of 10 eagles also were recorded in the first two rounds. Round three of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate begins tomorrow, Feb. 18, with a 7:30 a.m. tee time.
