Football Holds Final Practice For Chattanooga

Nov. 20, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about an hour in helmets Thursday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The workout was the final full practice of the 2008 season as Samford prepares for Saturday's season finale at Chattanooga.

Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said his team had a good workout as it prepares for Saturday's game.

"I think we had a good practice today," Sullivan said. "It was our seniors' last practice and they put on different jerseys and had fun with it. We've had a good week of practice."

Samford enters the game with a record of 5-5 overall and 3-4 in Southern Conference play. A win Saturday would give Samford its first winning season since 2003.

Sullivan said, regardless of the team's record, it is always important to end the season on a positive note.

"I think it is huge every year, wherever you are and whatever team you're with," Sullivan said. "We can't play another football game until next September. For our seniors, it will be their last game and their last memory of playing at Samford.

"For the guys coming back, it gives them something good to think about for the next seven or eight months," Sullivan said. "It's huge for a lot of reasons."

The Bulldogs will leave campus Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. to travel to Chattanooga, Tenn.

Saturday's game at Chattanooga is scheduled for a 1 p.m. (CT) kickoff from UTC's Finley Stadium. The game can be heard live on the Samford Football Radio Network. The flagship station for the network is WVSU-FM 91.1. The game can also be heard worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/groups/wvsu/.
