BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about an hour and a half in full pads Tuesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs are preparing for Saturday's Southern Conference game at The Citadel.

Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said he liked to effort his team showed as it prepares for its first game after taking an open week last week.

"I thought we had a good practice," Sullivan said. "We were working on our game plan, and there is always a little more thinking when you do that so it's not quite as sharp as you'd like. But, I thought our effort and attitude was good."

Samford and The Citadel both enter the week with records of 3-4 overall and 1-3 in SoCon play. Samford took last week off after a 26-24 loss at Furman on Oct. 17. The Citadel is coming off a 38-28 win over Furman last weekend.

Sullivan said he has been impressed with what he has seen from The Citadel in all phases of the game.

"I think The Citadel is a very good football team," Sullivan said. "This should be a dog fight. They're coming off the big win last week against Furman. (Miguel) Starks, their quarterback came in and gave them a lift.

"Defensively, the two inside guys they have (Terrence Reese and Kyle Anderson) are really good football players," Sullivan said. "In the kicking game, Andre Roberts is the leading kick returner and he scares you every time he touches the ball on special teams as well as offensively. It should be a heck of a ball game if we do our part."

Samford will practice again Wednesday afternoon. The practice is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.

Saturday's game at The Citadel is scheduled for a 12 p.m. (CT) kickoff from Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston, S.C. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu.
