BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about an hour and a half in shells Sunday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs began game-week preparations for Saturday's Southern Conference game at The Citadel.

Samford enters the week with a record of 3-4 overall and 1-3 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs are coming off their open week after falling at Furman, 26-24 on Oct. 17. The Citadel is also 3-4 overall and 1-3 in league play after a 38-28 win over Furman on Saturday.

Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said his team started the week with a good practice.

"We gave them Friday and Saturday off and came back and got a good workout in today," Sullivan said. "We started a little bit with The Citadel, and we will get into our full game plan on Tuesday."

Sullivan said the players appeared to come back rested after taking the last two days off from practice.

"I thought they were a little fresher today," Sullivan said. "They needed to get some rest and be fresh, which was the intent of giving them two days off, so hopefully that worked."

Samford will take Monday off and will return to practice with a full-pad workout on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' Tuesday practice is scheduled to begin at 4:40 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.

Saturday's game at The Citadel is scheduled for a 12 p.m. (CT) kickoff from Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston, S.C. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu.
