Football Returns To Practice Tuesday

Oct. 14, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for an hour and a half Tuesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs are coming off a 35-24 loss to second-ranked Appalachian State last Saturday.

Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said the team had a good workout in its first practice since Saturday's game.

"I thought we had a good practice," Sullivan said. "They had their mind on their business. We worked on some fundamentals, some basic things. We went over a few of the looks of The Citadel. We'll come back and do the same thing on Wednesday and Thursday."

Samford is off this week, but the Bulldogs will return to action on Oct. 25, when they play host to The Citadel for Samford's 2008 Homecoming game.

Sullivan added that starting linebacker Quinton Smith had undergone knee surgery on Monday.

"We lost Quinton in the first half of the game against Appalachian State," Sullivan said. "He had his knee scoped and it looks like it'll be a couple of weeks before we get him back. It wasn't too serious, but we will lose him for a couple of weeks."

Samford will practice again Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs will also practice Thursday at 3:45 p.m., before taking the weekend off.

Samford's Homecoming game against The Citadel on Oct. 25 is scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff from Seibert Stadium. The game can be heard live on the Samford Football Radio Network. The flagship station for the network is WVSU-FM 91.1. The game can also be heard worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/groups/wvsu/.
