Football Has Funadmental Workout Sunday

Oct. 5, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about 45 minutes in shorts and helmets Sunday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs are preparing for Saturday's home game against three-time defending national champion Appalachian State.

"Today was a day to work on some of the basic fundamentals and the kicking game," Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said. "We did a little preliminary work on Appalachian State and we worked on some corrections from yesterday."

The Bulldogs will take Monday off from practice and will return to practice Tuesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium.

"Monday will be our planning day and the off day for the kids," Sullivan said. "Monday is also their lab day in school. We will come back and have our pad practice on Tuesday."

Appalachian State, ranked second in last week's Sports Network poll, enters the game with a record of 3-2 overall and 1-0 in Southern Conference play. The Mountaineers are coming off a 47-21 win over The Citadel on Oct. 4.

Samford is currently 3-2 overall and 1-1 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs earned their first Southern Conference win on Oct. 4, winning at Western Carolina by a score of 21-6.

Tuesday's practice is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. The team will also practice at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

Saturday's game against Appalachian State is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff from Seibert Stadium. The game can be heard live on the Samford Football Radio Network. The flagship station for the network is WVSU-FM 91.1. The game can also be heard worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/groups/wvsu/.
