Taliaferro Named SoCon Student-Athlete Of The Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford sophomore quarterback Dustin Taliaferro has been named the Southern Conference's Student-Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday. Taliaferro, a native of Roswell, Ga., is majoring in business at Samford and has posted an impressive 3.71 grade-point average. In last week's 27-0 win over Jacksonville, Taliaferro completed 14-of-23 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Taliaferro hit Riley Hawkins for a 51-yard touchdown in the second quarter of Saturday's game, and he connected with Jonathan Lowery for a seven-yard score, also in the second quarter. For the season, Taliaferro has been good on 34 of his 57 pass attempts for 366 yards and three touchdowns. Taliaferro is averaging 183 yards passing per game through the first two games of the season. Taliaferro and the Bulldogs will play host to the Miles College Golden Bears Saturday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
