Samford has not begun a season 0-2 in its seven seasons under Head Coach Pete Hurt. The last time a Bulldog team began a season 0-2 was in 1989, when Terry Bowden's Bulldogs opened the season with losses to Jacksonville State and McNeese State. That team finished 4-7.

However, the 1999 team did lose its first two home games -- to Chattanooga on Sept. 2 and to Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 25. The Bulldogs recovered, though, winning five of the next seven and finishing the season with a four-game winning streak. The '99 Bulldogs wrapped up the season with a 19-15 home win over Tennessee Tech at Seibert Stadium.
