Football Continues Work Towards Faulkner

Sept. 3, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about an hour and a half in shells Wednesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs are continuing to prepare for Saturday evening's home game against the Faulkner Eagles.

Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said he liked the enthusiasm of his team during Wednesday afternoon's workout.

"I thought we had a very spirited practice today," Sullivan said. "I think they have taken the challenge to try to get better this week and cut out some of the mental mistakes and have done that. It was one of the better practices we have had."

Sullivan talked about some specific areas that have made improvements since Thursday night's season-opening win over West Georgia.

"I think our skill players on offense have gotten better," Sullivan said. "I think our defensive line has had a good week of practice."

Sullivan also said he has been impressed with the work of the Bulldogs' kickers, punter Bob Hooper and place-kicker John Paul Fraites.

"Our two kickers are really continuing to get better," Sullivan said.

Samford will practice again Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs will practice in shells, beginning at 3:40 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.

Saturday night's game against Faulkner is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff from Seibert Stadium. The game can be heard live on the Samford Football Radio Network. The flagship station for the network is WVSU-FM 91.1. The game can also be heard worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/groups/wvsu/
