SU IN SEASON OPENERS Samford has a 34-46-4 record in season openers dating back to 1906, the school's first official year of football. The Bulldogs have lost their last four season openers, dropping the last three to Chattanooga and one to Furman in 1997. Of Samford's 32 wins in season openers, 21 have been shutouts, including a stretch of 11 of the 12 openers played from 1922 to 1933. HOME OPENER RECORDS The Bulldogs have fared much better when opening their season at home, posting a 24-11-2 (.648) mark in 37 games. Samford is 6-3-1 in its last 10 home season openers dating back to 1989. Prior to the last two losses in Birmingham to Chattanooga in 1999 and Furman in 1997, Samford won six consecutive home season openers from 1991 to 1996.
