Twenty-two teams competed in the 8th Annual Kickoff Scramble & Shootout benefiting the Samford Football program Monday at the Hoover Country Club. Over 100 golfers joined Bulldog coaches and athletics staff members to show their support for the program.

"This was a great day for us," first-year head coach Bill Gray said. "This (tournament) gave us the opportunity to say thank you to people who have been supporting the program for years and the opportunity to get new faces involved in Samford football."

Rain shortened this year's tournament, which also allowed for two winning teams. Mark Woods, John Kelso, Dave Lofton and Chris White were part of one winning team while Chris Brown, Ian Thompson, Mark Sanders and Steve Doak were on the other team.

Samford kicks off the 2002 season Thursday, Aug. 29 when the Bulldogs host the University of North Alabama at Seibert Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling 726-2050.
