Football Honors Seniors With Annual Banquet
April 19, 2007 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford program honored the seniors of the 2006 squad with its annual Senior Banquet Thursday night at The Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover. The event started with a welcome by head coach Pat Sullivan, followed by a highlight video from the 2006 season. The team's annual awards were also presented at the banquet. The Bobby Bowden Award, which honors an offensive player who exhibits strong character and work ethic and sacrifices for the team, was given to tight end Josh Brennard. The Kenny Morgan Award, which is given to a defensive player and honors former Samford player Kenny Morgan, was given to defensive back T.C. Myers. The Dr. Larry Lemak Scholastic Award, given to the senior with the highest grade-point average, was given to center Graham Lemmond. Lemmond also won the Team-Me Award, which honors a player who puts the team above himself. The Special Teams Most Valuable Player Award was given to punter Chris Hicks. The Number 5 Award, which honors former Samford player Charles Williams, who died in a car accident in the spring of 2003, was given to Myers. Samford's seniors who were named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference team, Hicks and Lemmond, were also honored. The Team Captains Awards were given to Lemmond, Myers, Hicks and wide receiver Freddy Young. The Bulldogs' Letterwinners Awards were also presented at the banquet. The awards were broken up into three categories: two-year letterwinners (Lemmond), three-year letterwinners (Jeff Bennett and Jonathan Vance) and four-year letterwinners (Brennard, Andrew Childers, Matt Crum, David Fisher, Quinton Griffin, Hicks, Calvin Hodge, Houston Holmes, Chase McTorry, Myers, Justin Ray, Steve Tennin, Clyde Triplett and Young). 2006 SAMFORD FOOTBALL AWARDS
