BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team held its second spring scrimmage Saturday morning at Seibert Stadium. The scrimmage lasted 90 minutes and consisted of over 90 plays.

"I was pleased with the scrimmage," Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said. "First of all, the weather held off and we were able to get close to a hundred plays in. I was hoping that the offense would make some plays, and we were able to do that.

"The defense made some plays as well," Sullivan said. "We saw some plays on both sides, and that was encouraging. We are not polished, but the kids were playing with a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of emotion. If we can keep that going and correct a few mistakes, then we have a chance to be as good as we can be."

All four of the team's quarterbacks saw action in the scrimmage. Senior Jefferson Adcock led the passing game, completing 7-of-10 passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns. Dante Williams followed Adcock with 33 yards passing on five completions.

"Jefferson is the senior, he has been there and has a little more grasp and experience," Sullivan said. "We are looking for some consistency out of the others. They all made some plays today, and they all made some mistakes. That's what spring practice is for, and we have to get that corrected before next fall."

Marcus Rice and Chris Evans led the ground game for the Bulldogs. Rice rushed 11 times for 63 yards. Evans had 11 rushes for 41 yards and a touchdown. Receivers Joe Jones and Wes Alexander each caught touchdown passes from Adcock. Alexander's touchdown came from 26 yards out, while Jones' touchdown was from 22 yards out.

"I thought Joe Jones made some nice plays," Sullivan said. "Chris Evans and Marcus Rice made some good plays running the ball. It was encouraging."

The Bulldogs will return to practice on Monday with a 7:00 p.m. workout in full pads. The team has one more scrimmage left in the spring. The team's final scrimmage is scheduled for April 26 at 7:00 p.m.
