Football Practices Under The Lights

April 2, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about two hours in full pads Wednesday evening at Seibert Stadium. The practice was the sixth workout of the spring for the Bulldogs.

Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said he liked what he saw from several players, including sophomore defensive lineman Jason Gaines. Gaines, during an 11-on-11 drill, intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown.

"Jason had a good day," Sullivan said. "It was Jason's birthday today and he did very well."

Sullivan also said he was impressed with the work of quarterback Richie Fordham and offensive lineman Thomas Gray.

"I thought Richie Fordham had a good day," Sullivan said. "All of the quarterbacks have had their spots, but Richie did some nice things tonight. Thomas Gray has had a really good spring, and we need to keep him going.

"Tonight, they were a little testy," Sullivan said. "They are ready to scrimmage and we will do some of that on Friday."

The Bulldogs will take Thursday off from practice, and they will practice again Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.

The team's first scrimmage of the spring is scheduled for Saturday, April 12, at 10 a.m. at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs will wrap up spring practice on April 24 with a scrimmage at 7 p.m.
