BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford Head Football Coach Bill Gray liked the effort of his defense on Tuesday, as the Bulldogs prepare to wrap up spring practice on Thursday.

"After having about 10 days off, it was that kind of practice," Gray said. "But I thought our defense ran around pretty well and was ahead of our offense all day. The players worked hard on both sides of the ball, and I was pleased that some of our younger players got a little more work today."

Gray also noted that two running backs, Fred Gilliam and Garrick McCarty, returned from injury to contribute. Both have been battling injuries and have missed most of spring practice.

"I was glad to get both of those guys back to get some work," Gary added. "They have missed most of spring drills and we will certainly need both of them healthy when the season starts next Fall."

Samford concludes spring practice with work in full pads on Thursday.
