March 13, 2006 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team opened its final week of spring practice with a two-hour workout in full pads Monday at Seibert Stadium. "We have seen some promising things from some kids so far this spring," Samford head coach Bill Gray said. "Losing just two starters on each side of the ball, a lot of our questions were concerning second-team guys and solidifying the depth chart." Gray added the Bulldogs still have some work to do in their final two practices of the 2006 spring season. "We still have two days to go, and we still have things we can improve on," Gray said. "In the scrimmage on Saturday, we had good yardage on offense, but we didn't take advantage when we were in the red zone. The biggest disappointment so far has been that we have not protected the football well enough. Our only chance in the fall is when we protect the football. We still have two more practices to drive that home, and we will continue to stress that as a staff." Samford is scheduled to practice again Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. The final practice of the spring season is scheduled for Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.
