BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team scrimmaged for about two hours at Seibert Stadium Saturday morning. The scrimmage was the final full scrimmage for the Bulldogs this spring.

Samford head coach Bill Gray said the defense impressed him during Saturday's scrimmage.

"It started strong for the defense, ended strong for the defense, and in the middle it was strong for the defense," Gray said. "We will look at it really close on film on Monday. I know we did some good things on both sides of the ball, but the tempo of the offense was a little sluggish as compared to last week, and I was disappointed in that."

For the scrimmage, the defense produced three interceptions during the two-hour workout.

"I thought the defense, for the most part, really flew around to the football and created some plays for us," Gray said.

Samford's three quarterbacks, Jefferson Adcock, Dante Williams and Wes Alexander each saw time under center Saturday.

"Quarterback is still a battle," Gray said. "I thought Dante did some good things at times, but Jefferson and Wes did some good things as well. We are still making too many mistakes with the football."

Gray said he liked what he saw individually from several players on defense.

"I think B.T. Hartloge is doing a great job for us this spring," Gray said. "Up front, Steve Tennin, we think can make a difference coming off the edge for us. Clyde Triplett and Haris Kovacevic have been pretty steady, and when they do their jobs, we are a much better defense."

Samford is scheduled to practice three times next week. The practices are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, all at 3:45 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.
