Patrick Garvin returns for his second season as an offensive assistant for the Bulldogs, working with the running backs in 2003. Last season, Garvin worked with the tight ends. Garvin spent two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Belhaven College, in Jackson, Miss., before coming to Samford. While at Belhaven, he coached the offensive line in Fall 2000. Garvin served as the defensive line coach in 2001 as well as the recruiting coordinator. Garvin, 25, received a B.A. in English with a minor in secondary education in May 2000 from Belhaven. He earned a master of education in secondary education from William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Miss. While playing at Belhaven, Garvin was named Mid-South Conference Academic All-Conference in 1998 and 1999. He also was selected Mid-South Conference Second Team All-Conference in 1999. Off the field, he was chosen Belhaven College’s Most Professional Student-Teacher in 2000. Before transferring to Belhaven, Garvin played two seasons at Pearl River Community College, earning the Dolby Holden Scholar-Athlete Award in 1997 as well as being named honorable mention Mississippi Junior College All-State. A native of Hattiesburg, Miss., and a graduate of Oak Grove High School, he is married to the former Elizabeth Shelton of Tupelo, Miss. |
