Corey Deal returns for his second season as a defensive assistant on the Bulldog coaching staff, where he continues to work with the outside linebackers. Deal comes to Samford after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Belhaven College in 2001 with fellow Bulldog coach Patrick Garvin. While at Belhaven, he assisted with the wide receivers in Fall 2001 before switching over to help the defensive line in Spring 2002.

Deal played at Middle Georgia College where he earned first-team All-Conference honors and was named an Academic All-American during the 1998 season. He helped lead the Warriors to an 11-1 record and a Junior College Bowl game in 1998. After a successful stint with the Warriors, Deal transferred to the University of Tennessee–Martin and started two games on the offensive line before suffering a career-ending injury in 1999.

Deal graduated with a degree in business administration from the University of Georgia in 2001. A native of Baxley, Ga., and a graduate of Appling County High School, he is single.
