SAMFORD: Samford is 4-5 on the season and will be looking to snap a three game losing streak. Phillip Ramelli leads Samford averaging 13.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Ramelli is 3rd in the A-Sun in FG percentage at 64 percent. The Samford record for best FG percentage is 60.5 percent by Randy Morgan in 1974-75. J. Robert Merritt is establishing himself as one of the top freshmen in the Atlantic Sun this season. He is ranked in the A-Sun in three statistical categories. He is 11th in FG percentage, 2nd in 3-pt. percentage, and 11th in 3-pointers made per game. The Bulldogs are 2-0 against the Sun Belt Conference this season having defeated Arkansas State twice.

SOUTH ALABAMA: The Jaguars (5-4) are looking to win back-to-back games for the first time this year after defeating Marist 93-73 last Sunday. Chris Young scored 31 points to lead four players in double figures. Young leads the Jags averaging 19.9 points per game. Demetrice Williams had 10 points against Marist and is averaging 14.9 ppg. Henry Williams had 11 points against Marist and averages 13.3 points and leads the team in rebounds at 4.9 per game. The Jags and Bulldogs have already had one common opponent this season. USA defeated North Georgia 92-67. The Jags are 1-0 against teams from Birmingham after defeating Birmingham-Southern 77-64 and are 1-0 against the A-Sun knocking off Georgia State 81-68. The Jags are undefeated at home this season but are winless away from the Mitchell Center.

INSIDE STUFF: Saturday marks the first meeting in 26 years between Samford and South Alabama. The Jags own a 12-3 all-time record in the series that began on Dec. 16, 1968. A game Samford won 66-57. The last meeting was on Dec. 27, 1976. USA won 81-67. The Jags have won the last nine meeting and the Bulldogs have never won in Mobile.

NEXT: Samford will wrap up its month long road trip on Tuesday in Oxford, Miss., with a 3 p.m. game at Ole Miss. The Bulldogs have not beaten the Rebels in seven meetings.
