SAMFORD: The Bulldogs will be looking for their first win of the season against Arkansas State who defeated SE Missouri State 83-71 on Friday. Head Coach Jimmy Tillette gets his second chance to become Samford winningest coach. He and John Brady each have 89 career wins as Samford's head coach. The Bulldogs dropped a heartbreaker to Chattanooga 68-66 on Friday. Junior Tyson Dorsey had a career-high 27 points on 9-14 shooting including seven three-pointers. The Bulldogs let a 42-30 halftime advantage slip away before making a strong comeback in the final ten minutes. Phillip Ramelli added 13 points and a team-high five rebounds for the Bulldogs.

ARKANSAS STATE: The Indians placed four players in double figures in their 83-71 victory over Southeast Missouri State on Friday. Teboris Thompson scored 18 points, Paris London had 16 points and 11 rebounds, Tony Brown had 14 points and Kim Adams had 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Indians. ASU out rebounded SEMO 37-29, shot 41 percent (30-72) from the floor and 80 percent (16-20) from the free throw line. London is a transfer from Memphis. The Indians have six seniors and four juniors on their roster.

INSIDE STUFF: Samford has not dropped back-to-back home games to begin the season since the 1987-88 season. The Bulldogs and Indians have met seven times with the home team winning each time. Arkansas State leads the series 5-2 winning the last four meetings in Jonesboro. The last meeting was a 66-64 overtime victory by ASU on Dec. 11, 1993. The last meeting in Birmingham was a 62-48 Bulldogs victory on Jan. 3, 1981.
