Men's Basketball Hosts Second-Place Jacksonville
Feb. 6, 2002 Samford looks to end its longest losing streak ever under Jimmy Tillette (4) as it hosts the second-place Jacksonville Dolphins. The Bulldogs picked up a key road win over JU, 65-58, on Jan. 7, but have lost four of their last six games since. Samford trails Jacksonville all-time in the series 5-7 but the Bulldogs have won five of the last seven games. Samford has also won three of the last four meetings and head coach Jimmy Tillette is 2-0 against JU in Seibert Hall. In fact, the series is tied at 2-2 in Birmingham, but both of JU's victories over Samford in Birmingham occured in other locations, not in Seibert Hall. Jacksonville averages 71 points per game, while the Bulldogs score 60.3 and hold their opponents to 60.4. Phillip Ramelli led three Bulldogs in this year's win over the Dolphins, scoring 15 points.
