Samford leads the all-time series with Jacksonville State 42-32 and the Bulldogs have never lost to JSU under Jimmy Tillette in Birmingham. Since Jacksonville State joined the Atlantic Sun Conference (formerly Trans America Athletic)in 1996, the Bulldogs post a 9-3 record against the Gamecocks.

Samford swept last year's games, winning 68-61 in Birmingham on Jan. 20 and 61-53 on Jan. 27 in Jacksonville. Samford leads the overall mark in Birmingham 28-11, and the last time JSU defeated Samford in Birmingham was a 82-81 victory on Dec. 14, 1974.

Samford is coming off a pair of losses to No. 23 Butler and Eastern Washington in the Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis. JSU split its last two contests with Samford's common opponents, defeating UCF 72-69 and losing to FAU 74-71 in Jacksonville.
