Baseball Announces Six Signees

Nov. 26, 2007

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball program has signed six student-athletes to national letters of intent, head coach Casey Dunn announced on Monday.

The signings are the beginning of the current coaching staff's fourth recruiting class. Recruiting Coordinator Tony David and assistant coach Mick Fieldbinder helped bring in this class after the two most successful seasons in Samford's baseball history, three consecutive nationally-ranked recruiting classes, and the excitement of the move to the Southern Conference after the 2008 season.

Signing with the Bulldogs are Tyler Vanderheiden (RHP, Hattiesburg, Miss.), Josh Hall (RHP, Houston, Texas), Byron Soler (C, Miami, Fla.), Brad Moss (C, Atlanta, Ga.), Charley Boring (OF/3B, Atlanta, Ga.), and Jeremy Boyd (OF, McDonough, Ga.).

The Samford coaching staff is excited about how the plan for this group played out.

"We planned on addressing specific needs with the types of players and positions we wanted to fill," Dunn said. "With a young 2008 team, our staff went into this recruiting year searching to fill the exact needs we have filled to this point This group is filled with impact talent. Each of these guys will step into this program possessing the ability and opportunity to help immediately in the Southern Conference."

To this point, Samford has added only talented high school players.

"It is always our goal to bring in outstanding high school players who can help right away as we help further their development," Dunn said. "Then, we need to fill certain areas of need from class to class with a junior college player or transfer before the transfer rules changed. We do plan on adding a junior college pitcher to this group."

Dunn said the staff plans to announce more signees in the near future.

Detailed biographies of each signee will be posted, with the first beginning on Tuesday.
