Baseball Announces Three Signees
Nov. 12, 2008
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball staff has announced the initial three signees of the early signing period for the 2009 signing class. Samford has added infielder Tommy Corbin (Woodward Academy, Atlanta, Ga.), left-handed pitcher Lex Rutledge (Tupelo High School, Tupelo, Miss.), and left-handed pitcher Sean Handlan (South Gwinnett High School, Snellville, Ga.). The current recruiting class is unlike any other led by Head Coach Casey Dunn in terms of the number of players. The youth of the current bulldog roster is dictating the size of the 2009 class. "We only have a few seniors on the team this year, with only one senior position player on the entire team," Dunn said. "So this will be as small a signing class as we will ever have. Possibly only two position players and three pitchers total depending on the draft and other factors." All three players were at the top of the coaching staff's list early in the summer and are expected to contribute at a high level right away. "We are very excited with these additions as the guys we identified very early and were fortunate to lock them up for our program," Dunn said. "In particular, landing two standout left-handed pitchers is critical to this year's small group." Further additions will be added in the future, there will be detailed articles about each individual signee in the upcoming days.
