Bryan, Iorg Named Honorable Mention Freshmen All-Americans

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Right-handed pitcher Alan Bryan and shortstop Eli Iorg were named honorable mention 2002 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-Americans announced by Collegiate Baseball Magazine. Bryan and Iorg picked up their second honor of the season after both were selected to the 2002 Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshmen Team.

The two joined 13 other Atlantic Sun Conference players who earned postseason honors.

Bryan, who prepped at Collierville High School in Collerville, Tenn., finished his first season at Samford 4-7 with a 5.51 ERA. He picked up wins over VMI, UT-Martin, Jacksonville St. and McNeese St. Bryan started 11 games and allowed 48 earned runs in 78.1 innings pitched while striking out 55 and only walking 13 in 328 at-bats.

Iorg, who attended Karns High School in Knoxville, Tenn., hit .296 in his first season and knocked in 26 RBI. He was second on the team in doubles with 12 and finished 7-of-12 in stolen bases. Iorg also had 15 multiple hit games.

Samford finished the 2002 season 27-31 and returned to the A-Sun Conference Tournament for the first time since 1998.
