Samford Baseball Adds Three More to Recruiting Class
June 11, 2002 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford head coach Tim Parenton added three more players to his 2003 recruiting class Tuesday. Stephen Artz and Karl Huch both signed letters of intent while the Bulldogs also received a commitment from infielder Jeff Dils. Artz is a 6-2, 180 pound right-handed pitcher and shortstop from Stone Mountain, Ga. He helped lead George Walton Academy to a 2002 state championship. Huch is Samford's only junior college transfer. A 6-4, 235 pound right-handed pitcher, he was named to the 2002 AJCC Division II Region XXII All-South First Team. Huch helped the Warhawks compile a 40-16 overall record, which was good enough for a No. 3 national ranking.
Dils, a 6-1 infielder from Duluth, Ga., led Marist High School in home runs, slugging percentage and batting average as the War Eagles went on to capture the Class 4A state title.
The three join Samford's previous signees, right-handed pitcher Chandler Tidwell (Landmark Christian Academy, Douglasville, Ga.,), pitcher/outfielder Justin Klinger (North Penn High School, Hatfield, Pa) and catcher Hunter Tubbs (Germantown High School, Germantown, Tenn).
