Marseco Named To All-OVC Tournament Team For Baseball

PADUCAH, Ky. - Samford junior short stop Michael Marseco was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Tournament at the conclusion of the event on Saturday. In two games in the tournament, Marseco batted .833 (5-for-6) with three triples and an RBI. His three triples are the most of any player in the history of the OVC Tournament. Marseco, Samford's lone representative on the team, had a slugging percentage of 1.833 in the tournament, and he posted an on-base percentage of .889. He also walked three times and scored a run in the tournament. Prior to the start of the tournament, Marseco was named the league's Co-Player of the Year, and he was named first-team All-OVC for the third year in a row. For the season, Marseco set a Samford record with 93 hits. His .419 batting average is the highest in modern Samford history. Eastern Illinois won the tournament title with a 7-4 victory over Southeast Missouri on Saturday. EIU's Jordan Tokarz was named the tournament Most Valuable Player. EIU teammate Brett Nommensen also made the All-Tournament Team. Southeast Missouri had the most representatives on the team with four, while Tennessee Tech placed three members on the team. EIU and Jacksonville State had two representatives each on the team. Below is a complete list of the 2008 All-OVC Tournament Team.
