Robert Evans Shares Final A-Sun Player of the Week Honors
May 21, 2002 Macon, Ga. - Samford junior outfielder Robert Evans has joined UCF senior infielder Adam Miller in the final Atlantic Sun Baseball Player-of-the-Week honors. Evans was a key factor this past weekend as Samford clinched a spot in the 2002 A-Sun Tournament, the first trip for the Bulldogs under Tim Parenton. At the plate, Evans went 6-12 for the weekend as Samford swept Belmont at Joe Lee Griffin Field to earn a spot in the conference championship. Evans also improved to 4-1 on the season on the mound, starting and winning the final game of the series on Sunday. In that game he struck out five batters while allowing seven hits in six innings, and helped himself at the plate by going 3-for-5 and scoring one run. Evans' Bulldogs (#6) and Miller's Golden Knights (#1) will square off in the opening game of the 2002 A-Sun Championship this Wednesday at 10:00 a.m (CDT), at Stetson's Melching Field at Conrad Park in DeLand, Fla.
Samford posts a 2-6 (.250) record in tournament history, as the Bulldogs last appeared in the conference tournament in 1997.
