Baseball Game Notes In PDF Format

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will travel to Fort Myers, Fla., to take part in the FGCU Classic, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University from Thursday, Feb. 26 through Sunday, Mar. 1.

Samford enters the tournament with a record of 2-1. The Bulldogs won two-of-three games last weekend against Kennesaw State. Samford won game one, 6-5 and game three by a score of 8-2. The team's lone loss in the series was a 12-5 setback in 10 innings in game two.

Several first-year players had a strong series for the Bulldogs against Kennesaw State. Mason Meredeth led the way for the Bulldogs at the plate, going 6-for-11 with a triple and two RBI. Brad Moss and Trey Hayes each homered for the Bulldogs.

On the mound, Samford received strong pitching through most of the series. Andrew Jones and Kyle Nichols each earned wins on the mound for Samford.

In the FGCU Classic, Samford will open play by taking on Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday at 3 p.m. The Eagles enter the tournament with a record of 1-3. FGCU hosted the FGCU Invitational last weekend, defeating Central Michigan, before losing to Central Michigan, Wichita State and Temple.

On Friday, Samford will play South Florida at 11 a.m. The Bulls are currently 1-2 after dropping two-of-three games in the Big East-Big Ten Challenge. USF lost to Michigan, defeated Purdue and then wrapped up the weekend by losing to Indiana.

Samford will take on Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Wildcats have a record of 2-2 after defeating Stetson, 4-2, in their home-opener Tuesday evening.

 

 

The Bulldogs will wrap up play in the tournament on Sunday by taking on Boston College at 11 a.m. The Eagles enter the tournament with a record of 4-0. BC swept a four-game series from Stetson over the weekend.
