DeLAND, Fla. - John Destefano went 3-for-5 with four RBI and Mike Wiley held Samford to two hits in 3 2/3 innings as Stetson completed the Atlantic Sun series sweep of the Bulldogs, 9-6, Sunday afternoon at Melching Field. The Bulldogs fell to 13-31 and 7-20 A-Sun while the Hatters ran their record to 30-17 and 18-9 in the A-Sun.

Ehren Wassermann(4-7) suffered the loss for the Bulldogs. Wassermann gave up nine runs on 15 hits and struck out four. Wiley relieved starter Cameron Abel, who allowed four earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. Roger Lincoln picked up his fifth save of the season. Bryan Zenchyk and Ian Church each added three hits. Robert Evans finished 1-for-4 with four RBI for the Bulldogs.

Stetson jumped out early in the bottom of the third. Ian Church led off with a bunt single and scored on John Destefano's RBI single giving the Hatters a 1-0 lead. Ben Hall followed with a single through the right side. Brian Snyder doubled to left field clearing the bases extending the Hatter lead to 3-0. After Snyder stole third, Bryan Zenchyk's RBI single made it, 4-0.

Robert Evans' three-run home-run in the top of the fourth brought Samford within, 4-3. Matt Alling reached base in the fourth when he was hit by a pitch. Alling stole second and moved to third on Michael Collins' single. Evans homered to right center clearing the bases.

Church and Destefano each doubled in runs pushing the Hatters ahead, 6-3, in the bottom of the fourth.

Samford scratched for three more runs in the top of the fifth. Kip Snowden walked. Joe Denson and Matt Alling singled back-to-back to load the bases. Collins hit a ball that rolled between Ben Hall's legs at second base allowing Snowden and Denson to score. Alling crossed home on Evans' ground out tying the game, 6-6.

 

 

Destefano's two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth with two outs put the hatters back on top, 8-6.

Stetson added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.

The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday when they travel to Alabama.
