MARTIN, Tenn. --- Sae Evans hit two home runs, including the game-winner in the tenth inning, to knock off UT-Martin 6-5 at Skyhawk Field.
Tennessee-Martin (6-32) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, but Samford (10-27) reliever Shane Weeks retired the next three Skyhawks on popups to record the save and preserve the Bulldogs 6-5 victory Tuesday afternoon.
Evans was the star late in the game for the Bulldogs, as he hit a two-run homer
off UT-Martin reliever Casey Bevis in the eighth inning to tie the game at 5-5. Evans then led off the 10th with a solo shot to give the Bulldogs the lead for good. Evans, hitting ninth in the order, finished the game 3-for-5 with four RBI.
Samford tallied 10 hits to 13 for UTM, and each team committed three errors. Dennis Thomas (1-1) allowed an earned and an unearned run in two and two-third innings and picked up the win while Weeks got the save for Samford. Starter Ty Dedmon allowed three earned and one unearned runs in six and third innings of work, striking out two and also walking a pair.
The teams meet again at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
