CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Samford baseball team split an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader at Austin Peay Friday evening. Austin Peay won the first game, 1-0, while Samford took game two by a score of 5-1.

For Samford in the doubleheader, Michael Marseco went 4-for-7 with an RBI. Marseco was 3-for-3 in Samford's win in game two of the day.

Eric Lassiter earned the win on the mound in game two. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up one run on six hits. Doug Denson pitched the final 1.1 innings to earn his third save of the season.

At the plate in game two, Samford jumped on top first with a run in the top of the first inning. Marseco singled to reach base and later scored when Louis Rojas grounded out for a 1-0 Samford lead.

Austin Peay came back to tie the score with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Will Hogue led the inning off with a double and scored when Jake Lane hit a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the score at 1-1.

Samford plated a run in the top of the third inning to retake the lead at 2-1. Luke Peavy singled to drive in Kyle Krebs for a 2-1 Samford lead.

Samford added two runs in the fourth inning to push its lead to 4-1. Marseco singled to drive in John Morgan for a 3-1 Samford lead. Rojas hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Krebs to make the score 4-1.

Samford plated another run in the top of the sixth inning. Krebs scored the run on an Austin Peay error for a 5-1 Samford lead.

 

 

In game one, the game's lone run was scored in the bottom of the eighth inning. Lane led the inning off with a double and later scored on a Samford error for a 1-0 Austin Peay lead.

Each team's starting pitchers in game one had strong outings. Samford's Chandler Tidwell pitched the complete game, giving up one unearned run on three hits. He struck out five batters and walked just one. APSU's Shawn Kelley tossed a complete game as well, surrendering no runs on five hits, striking out four batters and walking just one.
